Sleeper Athletics joins the Marcelo Alonso BJJ Team

Things come full circle as Sleeper Athletics affiliates with Marcelo Alonso Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Team. Back in 2001, I walked into Marcelo’s Tacoma Academy completely out of my element and unsure of what to expect. Marcelo’s personality, passion for the sport and uncanny ability to make complex moves seem simple hooked me on the first day. Time passed, gyms changed and I had the opportunity to train with lots of different great guys and girls. Now over ten years and a ton of training, teaching and learning later, I have decided to go back to where it all started

Hard work pays off – First place at Bad Draw for Ian and Tenocht!!!!!!

The Sleeper Athletics Youth Team braved the snow and headed north to Monroe High School for the WWKWL Bad Draw wrestling tournament. Despite the weather the tournament was well attended by talented wrestlers from across Washington. Competing for Sleeper Athletics was Ian and Tenocht. Ian is an experienced WWKWL competitor and finished all of his mathces by either pin or tech fall. Tenocht was debuting in WWKWL and took the competition by storm. Tenocht won all his matches by points (11-0, 8-0 and 5-3) and showed incredible poise and talent against some tough competition. Great job to both wrestlers!

Youth Wrestling classes added to schedule – Mondays and Fridays

Don’t forget about the new additions to the schedule! Youth Wrestling Classes with Coach Syd on Mondays 5:30-6:30 and Fridays 5:00-6:30. Whether your child’s goal is to have fun or to compete in wrestling or other grappling tournaments, these classes will be a gret addition to your their training schedule. Classes will focus on the fundamentals of wreslting including takedowns, positional control and pins. Wrestlers will also learn about hardwork, discipline, perseverence and teamwork. Great job at the Arlington Submission Challenge

Sleeper Athletics Youth Team had a great showing at the Arlington Submission Challenge. All the competitors showed tons of skill and sportsmanship and had some super exciting matches. The under 12 gi white-yellow divison was stacked with Sleeper Kids and everyone had great matches. Roman and Tenocht met in the finals and had one of the best matches of the event. Way to go both of you, great techinique and loads of action. Brandon, despite being one of the smallest in the division, surprised everyone with his tenacity and spunk.
